Figma feature concept: Page folders

UI Concept

Note: This was written before Figma introduced the ability to easily create dividers, which is nice but still insufficient.

One of my biggest gripes with Figma is that we are forced to come up with inventive hacks to organize pages within a project.

That's not good, and it quickly becomes sprawling when the project evolves. And yet, Figma tells us to employ this as a best practice.

When dealing with complex, multi-phase design initiatives, designers need a file structure to efficiently organize and navigate through pages.

Give us folders! It's a mainstream and ubiquitous UI paradigm for organization that is somehow missing from Figma.

In my concept, the 'Add new page' button gets a dropdown menu with a new capability: Add new folder.

Users can drag pages into folders, and can expand and collapse folders to show or hide the contents. This is a common interaction pattern that would be beneficial and intuitive.
